The Saints

The Saints are the Northampton rugby team. Having gone through some rough patches, including most recently relegation during the 2007/2008 season (they completed the year in National Division 1 with an unprecedented 35 wins from 35 games), they have rapidly come back through the combined powers of Jim Mallinder, Dorian West and Paul Grayson, alongside a strong combination of youth and experience.

Saints 31 - Leeds 24

At this point in the season, every game counts. This one would not only decide if the Daints were in the play-offs but also decide if Leeds stayed in the premiership. In some ways the first 20 minutes were predictable. Leeds playing for their lives while the Saints were still coming down off the intensity of last weeks Heineken match. And 20 minutes in the Leeds supporters must have thought it was Christmas. Their team had scored three tries with the Saints only having one penalty to show for a lot of possession. This had the hall marks of an upset.

The Saints pulled it back though. Importantly before the big guns came on they had the match flowing the right way. By the time Dylan, Lawes, Tiny and co came on in the second half, Leeds were finished
