The Saints

The Saints are the Northampton rugby team. Having gone through some rough patches, including most recently relegation during the 2007/2008 season (they completed the year in National Division 1 with an unprecedented 35 wins from 35 games), they have rapidly come back through the combined powers of Jim Mallinder, Dorian West and Paul Grayson, alongside a strong combination of youth and experience.

Saints 23 - Perpignan 7

The semi-final for the Heineken Cup. Further than last year. And as yet unbeaten. Some saying we've had it easy, but it's never easy to win every match. And the semi is likely to be a real test. The first scrum that is expected to be able to stand up to ours. A home country semi and luckily this means that we play at StadiumMK again. So the lads have a bit of knowledge and have been able to train there.

In the end this was a dominant display by the Saints. There are the nay sayers who comment that Perpignan didn't turn up. The other way to look at this is that the lads didn't let them. Two lovely tries in the first half put the game away and the second half was a display of dominance, although not matched by further tries. In one scrum in the second half, Perpignan dissolved, like the parting of the waves, and that was the sign that they had finally capitulated.

Great match to watch and now to the finals.
